WHAT IS MEDICARE?
Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people age 65 and older and for individuals with disabilities. Medicare provides four types of coverage.
1. Hospital Insurance - Part A helps pay for inpatient hospital care, inpatient care in a skilled nursing facility and certain home health care services.
2. Medical Insurance - Part B helps pay for doctor's services and other medical services and supplies not covered by Medicare Hospital Insurance Part A.
3. Medicare Advantage - Part C (Medicare's managed care option)
4. Prescription Drug Coverage - Part D helps pay for prescription drugs not covered by Medicare Hospital Insurance Part A.
WHAT IS MEDICAID?
Medicaid is a State and Federal Government program that pays for certain health services and nursing home care for older or disabled people with low incomes and limited assets. In most states, Medicaid also pays for some long-term care services at home and in the community. Who is eligible and what services are covered vary from state to state. Most often, eligibility is based on your income and personal resources.
